Ballet in Birmingham for over 22 years

Welcome

The Hanson school of Ballet was established twenty two years ago and aims to provide high quality dance education for children and young adults.

Young dancers will be in the care of International Dance Teacher Association (IDTA) qualified and experienced teachers in well supervised classes.

Our aim is to develop children's grace in movement, and musicality. Through their achievement in examinations pupils develop self-confidence.

About the School

Lower School

Lower school classes are held at Harborne Baptist Church in Harborne Park Road and consist of the following: an introductory class, which is not examined, and two ballet classes. The first class is for 3 year olds and consists of basic movements and mimes set to music. The second class is for 4 year olds and leads to the IDTA Preparatory Ballet examination. The third class is for 5 year olds and leads to the IDTA Primary Grade Examination.

These classes are a preparation for the work in the next five grades, which consist of ballet technique and lead to an IDTA examinations at the end of each course.

Middle School

Middle School classes are based at Harborne Primary School and consist of Ballet Grades 1 through to 5. Pupils follow the syllabus for each grade in preparation for an examination at the end of the summer term each year. Free movement and character dances are also taught to encourage flexibility and musicality.

Upper School

Upper school classes consist of Ballet Grades 6 and 7 and the Major Examinations. The training is highly technical and demanding, however it is extremely stimulating and rewarding.

The Advanced course leads to an examination at professional performance standard.

Examination Classes

Additional classes are given before each examination to ensure children are well prepared.
